It is classified as a Second Growth (Deuxième Cru) in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855, which is a testament to its longstanding reputation for producing high-quality wines. History
- Founding: The estate was founded in 1811 by Louis Gaspard d'Estournel, who was often referred to as "the Maharajah of Saint-Estèphe" due to his fascination with the Orient. This is reflected in the exotic architectural style of the château.
- Ownership: After changing hands several times over the years, the estate was acquired by Michel Reybier in 2000, who has invested significantly in modernizing the winemaking facilities while preserving the estate's historical charm.
